PBGP - Race 11 - Worsthorne 7

Wetter than an otter's pocket! That's a reasonable summary of the weather for yesterdays penultimate GP race. "Sunshine & showers" the weather man said - "showers & torrential rain" is what we, or rather the runners, got (technically I suppose we did all get it, but I digress).

To be fair the rain had the decency to hold off after the early showers, at least until the airhorn was sounded for the start. That seemed to be the signal for the heavens to open - no one was going to dehydrate on this race & if you needed a drink, well just open your mouth! Being injured (or chicken depending who you listen to).

I took the professional approach of offering my assistance so ended up marshalling the gate at the bottom of Gorple Road. Ever the consummate professional I thought I'd take some pics. However, due to a combination of my lack of photography skills & the poor weather, some of them leave a little to be desired so apologies for that!

So onto the race, it looked "fun" from where I was stood, everyone smiling as they splashed their way up Gorple road before turning off over over Worsthorne moor & bog hopping down to Cant Clough res. From there it was back down to the woods at Hurstwood before the final drag up back past where I was still heroically stood like a drowned rat (no, please, no sympathy required, I like to try & put something back) and back over to Worsthorne.

By the time the leaders came back round, it looked like Gary Shaw from CLEM had it in the bag, but on the basis I've not seen results I'm just guessing he won - I'll amend this fable if it's not the case.

Out of the 18 hardy, if moist, TAC runners that showed up, it was Simon that came past me first & held off Darren & Paul to the finish. Dave Croll continued his comeback from injury with a good run round (he'd have probably beat me again anyway!) & I believe Fiona Hall won a category prize.

The ladies were back in representation again with Fionnula & Sandra both back racing. Looks like Sandra was glad to see her husband for once - I could see her waving to me from Hurstwood - well I think it was me.

Matt & Andy Haworth had to wait patiently for me at the end. Andy had thrown me his car keys whilst passing on the run out & being totally on the ball I'd completely forgotten to give them back to him on the way in - oops. Hope the hypothermia eases soon chaps!

Scott apparently took a tumble on the run down to Cant Clough, but managed to struggle back to his feet after being trampled by the chasing hordes - he reckoned it was women chasing him for his body, but if that's the case why did they just tread on him & keep running? Mark McConville also continued his first season as a TAC runner with a good solid finish, looking strong as he came past.

Well done to you all (and all you who I haven't mentioned), a great showing on a rubbish day - hope it's better for the final race next at Boulsworth!
