Golf Ball Fell Race

DAVE CROLL 18 AUG 2011

Six Trawden runners turned up for this one after Ian Hollas circulated details. It was a glorious summer evening for a midweek race that attracted over 180 runners. For some reason that I am not really sure about the start was delayed until 7.20pm but fortunately the good weather meant this didn't really cause any problems.

The race takes you up Hameldon from the Rossendale side and the first couple of miles is a gradual uphill before it levels off and then takes in the final climb up to Hameldon trig point. From there you have a lovely grassy run off to the quarry before you climb up again to the "golf ball" with a downill, through some lovely muddy fields, to the finish.

First Trawdener home was Darren Horner followed by Paul Brown. The rest of the Trawden posse followed as me (Dave Croll), Ian Hollas, John McDonald and our sole lady representative Fionnuala all finished with very respectable times and performances. A good run on a pleasant summer evening.
