Red Rose XC League - Race 1 - Leigh Sports Village

DAVE CROLL 8 OCT 2011

This was the first time Trawden had entered the XC League and four Trawdeners made the trip to Leigh to take part.

Fiona Pudge was the lone female but had a fine run on her return from injury to finish 61st out of 103 starters doing the four mile course in 26.13.

Darren Horner turned up to support but decided not to run following a fall last week - he did show us the injury and the general opinion was that it was genuine and he didn't "bottle it" when he saw Simon Kelly on the start line - get back running soon Darren and thanks for the support.

So 194 men on the start line of the 6 mile course and team Trawden put in a respectable performance with Simon Kelly first home (65th 39.09), Dave Croll (74th 39.41) and Jim Garside (91st 40.32). The team event needs six male runners and if we had three more runners of similar abilty (and there are plenty in the club) we would have been about 6/7th team I think.

Anyone wondering about the XC races, they are well organised, muddy and tough but I suspect they will do wonders for keeping up the winter fitness.

Finally, thanks to the team of suppporters from the Garside and Horner/Pudge families - much appreciated.
