Great Whernside Fell Race

CHRIS CAMPBELL 31 OCT 2011

A cold wet morning greeted a record field of 175 runners to Kettlewell for the start of the Great Wernside Fell Race. Trawden was represented with 4 runners which soon became 3 with Simon Kelly unable to start due to a very random kit check.

As the race organisers announced to the rest of the field that they were giving a runner five minutes to get sorted, half the field shuffled and tried to hide the fact that they too were ill prepared. Unlucky Simon, but I suppose lesson learned (for more than just you).

Jim Garside was first TAC runner home in what was a very boggy race. Matt Haworth was 2nd home making a welcome return to racing, but only after performing a triple back twist with pike in to a mud bath though. Scott was next having had an absolutely fantastic downhill, descending over everything & everyone like a tank (in control of course!).

Great race, great morning, good running guys!
