Wholan Nook Trail Race
There was just the one race in the second week of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix series – the Wholan Nook trail race - and it just so happens to be one of my favourite races.
This race has a bit of everything. It starts off with a cruel hill which is quite long but just about runnable. From there on in it’s all rolling hills. It’s quite a fast race, especially as it’s only approximately 4 and a half miles….but I assure you it feels longer!
It’s trails all the way so there’s no worrying about cars and there’s some beautiful scenery to enjoy if you can manage to lift your head and take a second to appreciate it.
We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine. Yes okay, the heat made things a little tougher but other than that it really was a perfect day to be running :-) Plus the great weather brought more supporters out and support is always appreciated.
I pushed hard all the way round (possibly harder than I should have done judging by the coughing fit I suffered with at the end of the race!) and was more than ready to stop running when the finish line came into view.
It was another cracking evening out for the Humbugs with some mighty impressive times posted. I was delighted to find out that I was third lady (again, there were lots of speedy ladies absent from the race!) and duly rewarded myself with a beer!
Whilst life is still hectic, the stresses are starting to ease and I’m so thankful for the fact that running seems to be keeping me sane for the time being. The strict training schedule is out of the window whilst there’s so many races going on and I’m just getting out there as and when I can.
It really is fantastic to be winning prizes, but I am enjoying my running so, so much at the moment and that, to me, is priceless.
