Last minute decision...

SIMON LISTER 3 OCT 2016

Well it was a last minute decision to race the Rochdale Half Marathon but I enjoyed it! First off, genius idea to start slower marathoners an hour before so they didnt just get left behind as with normal races, also impressed that the 10K and fun runs were incorporated too - something for everyone.

Good joining instructions with tabs to car parking, registration, etc, very helpful. Registration in town was slick and efficient, decent toilet facilities too. Parking at the college was FREE and close by.

I ended up last to start the half as I thought it was a 10:10am start rather than 10am, so overcooked the first mile trying to catch tail enders!

The course was good, not too technical, a little congested on the canal in places and a few people failing to give way, nice out and back route with a loop round Hollingworth Lake. Closed roads (with the odd exception of a few neighbours desperate to get out) made me feel like a VIP, lots of friendly marshals giving good encouragement.

Good finish tunnel and top quality tech T-shirt. The entry fee was a bit steep but I'm sure town centre road closures and traffic management costs were high. The medal wasn't up to much but I just throw them in a drawer anyway - the T-shirt made up for it.

Great weather, almost perfect conditions - I would certainly recommend!
