Fleetwood 10 Mile Race
Left in good time for the 10 mile road race at Fleetwood, although not as early as Wallace and Gromit would have!
It was overcast but fine during the nice drive over, but I got an idea of what lay ahead as I came off the M55 to be greeted with heavy rain. I thought to myself "Blooming marvellous, it's going to be a wet one!" anyway by the time I arrived at the Marine Hall it had stopped raining though it was very windy, I was almost blown off my feet as I got out of the car.
After registration I had almost an hour to spare, so decided to do something I don't normally. I found a quiet spot on to the prom, checked no one was looking, and started throwing my arms and legs about like someone possessed!
A quick look at the watch showed there was still 50 mins to kill, so I went for a short jog along the beach which turned into a three-mile run! I was getting carried away as usual then remembered I was there to race so turned back, which is when the full force of the wind hit me - I felt like I was running on the spot!
Back at the start I bumped into a fellow Trawdener Jogger Joe - good to see a friendly face - we had a quick natter, usual pre-race chat, then bang and were off! I was feeling on top of the world and soon found myself up with the front runners only to be slowed down with the strong wind further ahead, which was a blessing really, otherwise I would have been goosed at three miles.
Anyway, I battled with the wind for the first four miles or so till we turned off and back along the road which was the best part as the wind, now behind us, helped a great deal. We cut down a ginnel only to do it all again.
Not PB weather by any means but a meet up with family after the race and a good carvery in the Euston, washed down with a couple of pints, made it all worth while.
Well done to Jogger Joe who keeps on making an appearance at these seaside races. Back home now to sort my races out for May...
